Exhibit Opening – Great Migration: Indiscernables in Arizona

January 10, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Heritage Square is honored to present a new exhibit curated by Clottee Hammons. This exhibition weaves together the varied circumstances and the shared threads of experience surrounding the migration of African Americans to Arizona. It explores the search for new beginnings and financial opportunity as well as the experiences of racism and isolation faced by both early migratory cotton pickers and newer residents. It places Black Arizonans in the historic narrative.  It celebrates the survival of the ancestors and their establishment of enduring and thriving communities in the Valley.

Join us to celebrate the opening of this landmark exhibition. Food, DJ and of course the exhibit are all free and open to the public. Please register below to let us know how many are coming. This exhibit is part of a larger multi-disciplinary project of the same name developed by Emancipation Arts, LLC in collaboration with ASU’s School of Human Evolution and Social Change.

The exhibit is located in the Heritage Gallery and the opening event is in The Bungalow. We will provide discounted parking in the Heritage Garage at 5th Street and Monroe. See map below for specifics.

Check back for additional programming relating to this exhibit.
