An Important Note to Our Community

January 28, 2025

History organizations across the country, including here in Phoenix, depend on federal funding for preservation, research, and education. This week, that funding was suddenly put on hold, and while the memo informing of this freeze was rescinded, the White House has stated that the funding freeze itself is still in effect.

Nonprofits nationwide are in turmoil with no access to the funds they were awarded by Congress. This includes partial funding to local nonprofits like the Arizona Commission on the Arts, who has awarded grants to our organization many times over the years.

This is a reminder of how fragile support for the humanities can be.

Museums tell our stories. They connect us to our past and shape our future. Let’s make sure they have the funding they need to continue their vital work.

What can you do to help?

    • Contact your representatives and senators – Let them know you are concerned about the effect this or future funding freezes could have on museums and other nonprofits, and on people in our community.
    • Donate – Even if it’s just a few dollars. Because small donations can come together to have a big impact.
    • Write a letter to the editor – The more our community knows about how federal funding impacts local museums and nonprofits, the better.

Thank you!
