Spooky Season

Heritage Square is your destination for all things spooky and spine-tingling, now with tours through November and December!

Victorian Oddities & Curiosities –

This eerie new exhibit showcases Victorian fads and artifacts that, seen through today’s perspective, range from comical to downright creepy.

Victorian Oddities & Curiosities explores some of the more peculiar conventions, including mourning practices – like hair art and post mortem photography – that make us a bit uneasy today. These unsettling Victorian ideas even reached as far as child rearing, with stories like Slovenly Betsy and other cautionary tales that used shame and fear to keep children in line. And let’s not forget parlor games – not all games were as innocent (or safe!) as “Hide the slipper”…  Victorian Oddities & Curiosities is on display from October 2nd through November 3rd, and is included with Rosson House admission.
