Sold Out!! Homeschool Days @ Handcrafted–Indepth with Ink and Fiber
October 18, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm| Free - $10
** This date is sold out. Please see November 8 for more availability.**
Experience the past by creating objects by hand. In our new vintage maker space you can get indepth, hands on experience using antique machines to create hand-made products. These clever machines use human power and demonstrate gears and flywheels in action. The machines are as fascinating as the materials they use and create. Explore the impact of technological change on every day objects that we take for granted.
This indepth field trip will concentrate on two of our four zones: Ink and Fiber. A separate field trip for Wood and Food will be available later in the year.
At Heritage Square, your family will –
Get hands-on with Ink! Make paper, ink and try out a dip pen. Try our letterpress and typewriters. Head home with your own handcrafted booklet.
Get hands-on with Fiber! Spin thread and use it in your own weaving. Sew a sachet on our treadle sewing machine and try out a sock knitting machine. Head home with your own handwoven bookmark.
This field trip is designed for students 8 years and older who are comfortable with scissors and possess some fine motor skills. However, children of all ages are welcome. The cost is $10 per student of any age; adults and non-students aged 4 and under, who are not participating the the hands-on activities, are free. Limited to 16 students, so register early!.
